Biography Karen Fisher is the award-winning author of A Sudden Country. Shortlisted as among the best books of 2005, A Sudden Country won the Washington State Book Award for best novel, the Mountains and Plains Booksellers Award for best novel, and was a PEN/Faulkner finalist.
Formerly a wilderness guide, teacher, arborist, market gardener, custom homebuilder, and horse trainer, she is now a full-time writer, coach, librettist, and musician. She is a National Endowment of the Arts recipient, and has taught for Hugo House, the University of Washington, and Fishtrap. She is a mother of three and currently works from her home on Lopez Island, WA.
She is presently helping to bring her first libretto, Precipice, to the stage, and is otherwise taking her time, completing the second and third books of what is supposed to be a trilogy about the end or the beginning of the world. She hopes she is not too right, too wrong, or too ambitious.
