Noah Magnus
Composer

Biography

Eclecticism is a defining trait in Noah's music. He suspects it comes from a strong desire to explore people's similarities and differences. Stylistically and emotionally, he enjoys playing with anything he comes across, from Jazz Big Band Concertos, modal preludes and fugues, pop songs, avant-garde screeching solo violin music, and madcap insane comedy, to name but a few. The through-line between these approaches emphasizes order, structure, pacing, and theatricality, making the aesthetic quite malleable.

Like a box of chocolates, you may never know exactly what you'll get, but hopefully, it'll be sweet!

Highlights from 2024-2025 include premieres at concerts held by organizations such as The New Music Theatre Project, Random Access Music, and the LOTUS Quartet.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Noah previously graduated from the Brooklyn College Conservatory(B.Mus, 2021). His previous teachers included Guggenheim Fellow Dr. Dalit Warshaw, Polina Nazaykinskaya, and Dr. Douglas Cohen. He completed his MM in composition at Butler University in Indianapolis, as the Graduate Assistant in Music Theory on full scholarship. He his primary instructor was Dr. Michael Schelle, a two-time Pulitzer Prize in Music nominee.

In his free time, Noah enjoys going out with friends, eating sushi, playing chess and pool, and playing with his 14-year-old cat, Pookie. He is also a pretty good cook. His proudest accomplishment in his entire life was winning a hot chocolate-making contest with his roommates back in Brooklyn (though he actually liked the second-place one better)!
